In 1972, Bengt A. Espling chose to leave his successful corporate job as a vice president of a national jewelry chain to open his own business, Espling Jewelers. Starting in Southgate Plaza as a watch repair shop providing warranty service of Timex watches as well as popular watch brands. Espling was able to expand throughout Jacksonville as a local jeweler still providing excellent service.
